Materials to use in the Lab By Crystal Schmit

Crucible Tongs These tongs are used to pick up and hold a very hot crucible to prevent from burning yourself.

Double burette clamp This clamp is to hold two burettes at the same time. The clamp is attached to a ring stand.

Pipe-stem Triangle A frame that can support a container. Can be placed on an iron ring to provide a stage for a crucible.

Crucible and cover A cup-shaped lab material used to contain chemicals when heating them to very high temperatures. It also keeps oxygen out of the reaction.

Bunsen burner Used to heat materials in a lab. It also has a rubber hose that connects to the gas jet.

Ring Stand A support for other materials in a lab.

Wash bottle Used to rinse glassware in the lab

Wire Gauze Can support a container when heating while the Bunsen burner is beneath it. Also it helps spread the flame/heat around the container.

Test tube brush Used to clean a test tube.

Iron Ring Attached to the ring stand. It can be used to support a beaker.

Buret Vertical cylindrical piece. It is used to dispense known amounts of a liquid in experiments. It gives you a precise amount for experiments.

Stirring rod Used to stir liquids and combinations of chemicals.

Evaporating dish Container used for liquids. Usually when you want to evaporate a liquid from a chemical.

Flint Striker Used to create a flame on a Bunsen burner.

Watch glass Used to evaporate off the liquid part of a solution. Can also be used as a beaker cover.

Goggles Used to protect your eyes from broken glass, flames, and chemicals.

Test tube rack Supports and holds many test tubes.

Beaker It is usually used as a container for mixing or holding chemicals.

Erlenmeyer flask Gives approximate measurements of volume. It is usually used as a mixing vessel or a container for heating. Can hold liquids.

Florence Flask Used to hold a liquid during heating. Can hold solutions of chemicals.

Graduated Cylinder Used to measure the volume of liquids.

Test tube A container to hold chemicals during heating.

Test tube holder Holds a test tube during heating or after being heated to prevent from being burned.
