1 Natural disasters presentation
By Grant Harclerode

2 What is a natural disaster?
A natural disaster is any event by the earth that causes massive damage or loss of life. Usually are once in a while incidents

3 Examples of a Natural disaster
Earthquakes Floods Hurricanes Tornados Tsunamis Wild Fires

4 Natural disasters across USA

5 Earthquakes An earthquake is formed when enough stress builds up in a vault and the stress releases causing an earthquake. If you are in a car stay in and move from under a bridge If you are under a building get under a table. If you are outside stay clear of things that have potential to fall, and get shelter under a bus shelter or other covering. Have supplies like first aid kit, water bottles, and food.

6 Floods A flood is generally a temporary condition A flood occurs anytime two acres of usually dry land is covered in water Floods can result from hurricanes, heavy rains, or levee and dam failures. Plan ahead for floods by getting insurance, having first aid kits, have a place to go. Evacuate as quick as possible and head to higher ground away from rivers or lakes. Turn off your electricity and gas when you leave.

7 Hurricanes Hurricanes usually form over warm water. They usually last for weeks, the winds created can have the power to knock over buildings. When they hit land heavy rain and strong winds come. They usually die down after hitting land. Be prepared, Evacuate the storm ahead of time, go to a are with higher ground not located near the ocean. Find Shelter away from windows or potential flying objects.

8 Tornados A tornado is giant funnel of wind with speeds that can be around mph. They are created when hot air meets cold air. Move to underground shelter and try to avoid potential flying objects.

9 Tsunamis A Tsunami is a series of giant waves capable of flooding areas and destroying buildings, usually caused by earthquakes. To survive a Tsunami move to high ground

10 Wild Fires Wild fires are large fires that burn many acres at a time. Can be caused by heat or human carelessness. To survive a wild fire move as far away as possible.

11 Power of natural Disasters
Natural disasters can destroy buildings, roads, take out electricity and phone lines. Powerful natural disasters can cause many deaths and severe injuries. The most severe natural disasters can render an area inhabitable.

12 Slide Review Earthquakes
A Earthquake is caused by stress building up on tectonic plates and the pressure being released causing an Earthquake Floods A flood is usually a temporary condition where two or more acres that are usually dry get covered in water. Hurricanes Hurricanes are huge storms that occur mainly in warm oceans where huge storms with gigantic winds go across the ocean and sometimes hit land causing massive destruction

13 Slide Review cont’d Tornados
A tornado is when cold and hot winds meet up creating a gigantic spiraling cyclone with wind speeds like 300 mph Tsunamis Tsunamis are a series of gigantic waves that hit land and cause massive destruction Wild Fires Wild Fires are large fires outdoor that can burn for days on many acres. Can be caused by a variety of causes
